PREP TENNIS: Cullman squads, West Point boys clinch sectional titles, state berths

Cullman (boys), Cullman (girls) and West Point (boys) are headed to the state tennis tournament after clinching their respective sectional titles earlier this week.

The Bearcat boys defeated Albertville 34-25 in the Class 6A, Section 5 Tournament.

Blake Spradlin, Lukas Gipson and Tucker Rainwater were victorious in singles, while Gipson and Rainwater, Spradlin and Sam Ratliff, and Jackson Murphree and Sam Patel won in doubles.

The Lady Bearcats, meanwhile, rolled to a sectional title, recording 39 out of a possible 42 points.

Jaedyn Martin, Reagan Martin, Kate Krigbaum, Laney Jones, Emily Hancock and Katia Peterson claimed wins in singles, while Jones and Hancock, and Krigbaum and Emma Murphree collected triumphs in doubles.

The Warriors racked up the 4A-5A, Section 7 title, defeating Decatur and Russellville 46-22.

Carson Moon, Foster O’Neil and Howard Cooper won their singles matches, while Moon/O’Neil and Dawson Segers/Jared Smith contributed victories in doubles.

The state tennis tournament will take place next Monday and Tuesday in Mobile.
