PREP SPORTS: Good Hope’s Dixon named Athlete of the Week

Published 11:14 am Tuesday, November 20, 2018

Good Hope's Matt Dixon.

Matt Dixon delivered the goods — and then some — for Good Hope’s football team last Friday night.

The senior running back racked up 150 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries to help the No. 9 Raiders take down No. 2 Jacksonville 27-12 in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.

The victory sent Good Hope into the quarterfinals for the first time since 1997.

He also corralled four passes for 98 yards, including a 19-yard touchdown catch, and intercepted a pass for a defense that surrendered just 216 yards of total offense to the Golden Eagles.

Isn’t it obvious? Dixon is The Times’ Athlete of the Week.

Preston Bagwell and Riley Kilpatrick also recorded interceptions on defense.

Isaiah Green contributed a 36-yard touchdown run, while Bailey Quick completed 7 of 9 passes for 121 yards.

Athlete of the Week, which is sponsored by Mitch Smith Chevrolet, is open to all local athletes.
