PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: West Point’s girls claim 61-51 win at Gulf Shores; Cullman’s boys down Fairview 83-70

West Point opened the 2018 Bash at the Beach Thanksgiving Tournament in Gulf Shores with a 61-51 victory against Pensacola, Florida on Monday.
The Lady Warriors (3-0) will play Fairhope on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Olivia Ball and Mackenzie Carter amassed 14 points apiece for West Point in the win, while Miriam Oldacre (10), Lexi Shadix (eight) and Brooke Brownfield (six) dished out solid contributions as well.
“We’re playing really good team ball right now,” coach John Welborn said. “Making the extra pass, being unselfish and playing great defense. That’s the main thing. We may not be able to shoot it every night, but we can play defense every night.”

➤ Cullman 59, Jacksonville 22: Alexandria Barker (16 points) and Anna Katherine Eastman (13) came through for the Lady Bearcats in the victory.
Kortlin Cuellar secured nine points as well on Saturday in Hartselle.
➤ Priceville 69, Cold Springs 64: Despite 22-point outings from Elizabeth Hill and Toni West, the Lady Eagles couldn’t hold off the Lady Bulldogs.
Neely Ellison added 12 points in the loss on Saturday in Hartselle.

➤ Cullman 83, Fairview 70: Jayden Sullins gathered a team-high 19 points, Noah Bussman added 16 and 10 other Bearcats provided at least two in Monday’s win against the Aggies.
“We’re happy with the win, because we know Fairview has some good, strong players,” coach Bobby Meyer said. “We’re a young team trying to perfect how we’re going to play in the system we’re playing. We’re a work in progress.”
Fairview received 24 points from Austin Turner in the loss.
Luke Yarbrough and Dow Nichols added 12 and 11 points apiece.
➤ Lincoln County 65, Holly Pond 55: Kyler Chaney notched 22 points and Tyler Boatright secured 21, but it wasn’t enough for the Broncos, who dropped their season opener on Monday.

➤ Lawrence County 73, Vinemont 29: Katch Johnson had 11 points and Collin Teichmiller added nine in Monday’s loss to the Red Devils.
➤ Danville 68, Vinemont 63: Connor Handley (13 points), Katch Johnson (12) and Collin Teichmiller (11) racked up double-digit outings for the Eagles in Saturday’s close loss to the Hawks.

Friday (Boys)
➤ Hanceville 77, West Point 68: Fred Ellis (22 points), RJ Evans (12), Raiden Morgan (12) and Romain Pochon (11) all reached double figures for the Bulldogs in their road victory over the Warriors.
West Point was paced offensively by Kolton Sapp (21 points) and Tyler Thompson (13) in the loss.
➤ Fairview 55, Cold Springs 38: Sawyer Daniel and Austin Turner both scored 13 points to lift the Aggies to a home win against the Eagles.
Dow Nichols also contributed offensively for Fairview with 11 points.
Landyn Freeman produced 13 points for Cold Springs. Adam Hill tossed in nine as well.

Friday (Girls)
➤ West Point 69, Hanceville 33: Miriam Oldacre scored a game-high 20 points to guide the Lady Warriors to a home win against the Lady Bulldogs.
Olivia Ball (13 points), Mackenzie Carter (12) and Lexi Shadix (eight) also contributed strong efforts for West Point.
Kelly Pickett led Hanceville in scoring with 18 points.
➤ Fairview 69, Cold Springs 61: Payton Golden (29 points) and Molly McKelvy (17) helped the Lady Aggies hold off the Lady Eagles and snag a home triumph.
Maddie Yeager also pitched in for Fairview with eight points.
Elizabeth Hill (32 points and 10 rebounds) and Camryn Crider (20 points) turned in solid outings for Cold Springs.
