PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Hanceville’s girls down Cold Springs 59-55 in OT

Hanceville’s girls basketball team secured a 59-55 overtime victory at Cold Springs on Friday night.

The Lady Bulldogs (1-0) trailed 26-10 after the first quarter before battling back for the road win.

Kelly Pickett paced Hanceville with 22 points. Kierra Merriweather (12 points), Malia Howell (eight) and Lauren Roberson (seven) also contributed.

The Lady Eagles (0-1) received a team-high 20 points from Camryn Crider.

Toni West and Lina Lieckfield totaled 14 and 10 points apiece, respectively.

% West Point 82, Vinemont 18: Olivia Ball (16 points), Miriam Oldacre (13), Ryleigh Jones (10) and Lexi Shadix (10) all reached double digits for the Lady Warriors in Friday’s road win.

Mackenzie Carter (nine points) and Micah Oldacre (eight) were next in line for West Point (1-0).

Vinemont (0-1) was paced by Bailey Preiss’ 10 points.


Varsity Boys

% Hanceville 50, Cold Springs 43: Fred Ellis posted a game-high 18 points to help the Bulldogs secure a road victory on Friday.

Hanceville (1-0) got solid outings from Romain Ponchon (eight points), Raiden Morgan (seven) and RJ Evans (six) as well.

Landyn Freeman (16 points) and Adam Hill (14) were the top scorers for the Eagles (0-1) in the loss.

% West Point 70, Vinemont 48: Kolton Sapp delivered a 29-point outing for the Warriors in Friday’s road triumph.

Will Franklin Cochran (16 points) and Rylan Jones (12) contributed on the offensive side as well for West Point (1-0).

Collin Teichmiller had a team-high nine points for the Eagles (0-1), while Katch Johnson, Connor Handley and Caleb Sharpe tallied eight apiece.
