PREP SPORTS: West Point’s Shadix named Athlete of the Week

Lexi Shadix has stood tall for West Point’s volleyball team so far this season.

Look no further than last Saturday.

The sophomore standout produced 48 kills, 11 blocks, nine digs and five aces to help the Lady Warriors notch a sterling 6-0 record en route to winning the Priceville Invitational.

West Point secured four triumphs against three different ranked opponents — Decatur Heritage, Athens Bible and Lindsay Lane — on its way to improving to 23-2 this season.

Shadix, a 6-0 middle hitter, is The Times’ Athlete of the Week.

Mackenzie Carter (24 kills, 15 digs, two assists, two blocks and two aces), Josie Huckaby (23 kills and five blocks), Molly Pendley (19 kills, 14 digs and six aces) and Selena Clark (86 assists, 10 aces and eight digs) also contributed for the Maroon and White over the weekend.

Athlete of the Week, which is sponsored by Mitch Smith Chevrolet, is open to all local athletes.

% Zayne Guthrie, Addison: Completed 5 of 6 passes for 73 yards and a touchdown in a 42-7 win over Sheffield. Had 103 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Had six tackles on defense.

% Weston Smith, Addison: Had 93 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries against Sheffield. Had five tackles on defense.

Brett Smith, Addison: Had a 55-yard touchdown catch against Sheffield.

% Seth Walker, Cold Springs: Finished fourth in the small-school division at the TCBY Invitational to help the Eagles win the team title.

% Reagan Parris, Cold Springs: Finished fifth in the small-school division at the TCBY Invitational to help the Lady Eagles win the team title.

% Jayden Sullins, Cullman: Had 64 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries in a 21-0 win over Albertville. Had nine catches for 82 yards and a touchdown.

% Max Dueland, Cullman: Completed 23 of 35 passes for 229 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions against Albertville.

% Will Thompson, Cullman: Finished second in the large-school division at the TCBY Invitational to help the Bearcats finish runners-up.

% Ivy Edge, Cullman: Finished fifth in the large-school division at the TCBY Invitational to help the Lady Bearcats finish runners-up.

% Dayne Black, Fairview: Had 128 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries in a 35-0 win over Priceville. Completed 7 of 10 passes for 57 yards. Had 5.5 tackles on defense.

% Tyvn Ellis, Fairview: Had 101 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries against Priceville. Had 4.5 tackles on defense.

% Mason Black, Fairview: Had 75 total yards and a touchdown against Priceville. 

% Daniel Cook, Fairview: Finished 11th in the small-school division at the Randolph XC Classic to help the Aggies win the team title.

% Tanner Malin, Good Hope: Had two interceptions — one was a pick-six from 55 yards out — and four tackles in a 50-0 win over Oak Grove.

% Defense, Good Hope: Allowed just 73 total yards against Oak Grove.

% Bo Joles, Hanceville: Completed 13 of 24 passes for 166 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in a 22-14 loss to Vinemont.

% RJ Evans, Hanceville: Had 134 yards on 13 carries against Vinemont. Had four catches for 23 yards.

% Fred Ellis, Hanceville: Had a 62-yard touchdown catch against Vinemont.

% Antonio Bautista, Hanceville: Had a 58-yard touchdown catch against Vinemont.

% Aaron Brown, Hanceville: Finished first in the small-school division at the Randolph XC Classic.

% Chloe Tumbo, St. Bernard: Finished sixth in the small-school division at the Randolph XC Classic to help the Lady Saints win the team title.

% Jack Hill, Vinemont: Had 121 passing yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a 22-14 win over Hanceville. Had 64 rushing yards on six carries.

% Dallin Dinkle, Vinemont: Had 80 yards on 25 carries against Hanceville.

% Dalton Whitehead, Vinemont: Blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown against Hanceville. Had six tackles on defense.

% Hudson Wood, Vinemont: Had a game-winning touchdown catch (31 yards) against Hanceville.

% Hunter Persall, West Point: Had 100 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries in a 53-20 loss to Russellville. Had 180 return yards.

% Kolton Sapp, West Point: Had three catches for 81 yards and a touchdown against Russellville.
