PREP VOLLEYBALL: West Point stays unbeaten; Cullman earns wins in area opener

West Point’s volleyball team downed Cold Springs (25-21, 25-18) and Sumiton Christian (20-25, 25-17, 15-4) on Thursday to remain unbeaten this season.

The Lady Warriors (6-0) secured big-time contributions from Lexi Shadix (23 kills, four blocks and three aces), Josie Huckaby (nine kills and two blocks), Molly Pendley (eight kills and two aces), Selena Clark (39 assists, seven aces and two digs), Mackenzie Carter (seven kills and three aces) and Sarah Chapman (seven digs and four aces) in their two road matches.

Stats for Cold Springs, which bested Sumiton Christian (25-18, 25-10), were unavailable.

In other action, Cullman strolled past Decatur 25-18, 25-22, 25-12 to win its area opener. The Lady Bearcats also defeated Decatur Heritage (25-18, 20-25, 15-1) to improve to 7-4 this season.

Gracie Apel (18 assists), Amanda Hill (five aces), Ashlen Heatherly (13 digs), Caroline Hollingsworth (seven kills and four blocks) and Kada Milne (seven kills and four blocks) contributed in the match with Decatur Heritage, while Hollingsworth (eight kills and three blocks), Aubree Skipper (six kills), Milne (four blocks), Apel (11 assists and three aces), LG Evans (six assists), Heatherly (16 digs), Hill (seven digs), Taleah Sadler (six digs) and Kaina Thomas (three aces) had strong efforts against Decatur.
