LOCAL SPORTS: Good Hope’s Adams named Athlete of the Week

Carley Adams stepped up when it mattered most.

The junior standout helped the Raiders win three matches at the Cullman County volleyball tournament this week, including a three-set sweep of West Point in the championship clash, to take home their fourth straight county crown.

Adams, who has 211 digs and 197 kills this season, was named tournament MVP.

“She made some big plays on the front and back row to help us gain momentum or keep it,” Good Hope coach Natasha Holder said.

Adams is The Times’ Athlete of the Week.

AnnaBeth Powell, Addison: Had 186 assists, 55 digs, 24 kills, 8 aces and 5 blocks across 10 matches.

Katie Barrett, Addison: Had 83 digs, 55 kills, 20 aces and 4 blocks across 10 matches.

Macie Huffstutler, Cold Springs: Won the Class 1A-2A race at the Kudzu Invitational with a time of 20:59.84. Paizley Whitlow, Claire Huffstutler, Ayla Kate Huff and Kynzlie Myrex helped contribute to the team title as well.

Cooper Loftin, Cullman: Had 11 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns against Brewer.

Karina Harris, Cullman: Had 94 kills, 41 digs, 16 aces, 2 blocks and 1 assist across 10 matches.

Olivia Dover, Cullman: Had 227 assists, 50 digs, 8 aces, 4 kills and 2 blocks across 10 matches.

Ava Ray, Cullman: Had 84 kills, 49 digs, 16 aces, 5 assists and 5 blocks across 10 matches.

Clementine Hollingsworth, Cullman: Had 57 kills, 9 blocks, 8 digs and 2 assists across 10 matches.

Mabry Free, Addison Vogelaar, Khloe Nalley, Katie Richter and Ann Marie Land, Cullman: Helped the Bearcats win the team title at the Hillbilly Run in Kentucky.

Alex England, Fairview: Won the Class 5A-7A race at the Kudzu Invitational with a time of 16:28.36.

Tyler Cone, Good Hope: Completed 3 of 6 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown against Addison. Had 10 carries for 47 yards.

Carter Rutherford, Good Hope: Had two catches for 104 yards and a touchdown against Addison. Had two tackles, an interception and a pass breakup.

Landon Bagwell, Good Hope: Had 17 tackles, two sacks, two quarterback pressures and a forced fumble against Addison. Had a touchdown run.

Mason Drake, Good Hope: Had 14 carries for 117 yards and a touchdown against Addison. Had 10 tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup.

Hank Hudson, Good Hope: Had 15 tackles and two tackles for loss against Addison.

Travis Barnett, Holly Pond: Set a new school record in the 5K with a time of 15:44.79 at the Black & Gold Classic.

Rush Sandlin, Vinemont: Completed 4 of 7 passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns against West End. Had 12 carries for 75 yards. Had two tackles.

Chad Reynolds, Vinemont: Had 16 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns against West End. Had a touchdown catch.

Brandon Johnson, Vinemont: Had seven tackles against West End.

Kayden Henderson, Vinemont: Had five tackles and a forced fumble against West End.

Tucker Robinson, Vinemont: Had six tackles and a sack against West End.

Hayden Robinson, Vinemont: Had a touchdown run and an interception against West End.
