Tyler Cone tossed a touchdown pass to Landon Bagwell in the third quarter to break a scoreless tie and the Raiders took care of the rest on the other side of the ball, forcing a couple of turnovers en route to a 7-6 win over Fultondale on Friday night.

Coach Alan Scott’s team improved to 2-0 (1-0 in Class 4A, Region 5) with the victory.

“I’m really humbled by the way our guys played tonight,” said Scott, whose team was without starting quarterback Parker Johnson. “We showed a lot of guts. Defensively, it was the definition of bend but don’t break. Fultondale is so athletic and they popped a few mid-range runs — but we never gave up the big play and were able to capitalize on some turnovers and miscues.”

The Raiders travel to Haleyville next week.

Class 1A, Region 7

Addison 51, Shoals Christian 0

The Bulldogs coasted to a victory in their region opener on Friday night.

Addison (2-1, 1-0) built a 38-0 cushion at halftime following touchdown runs by Zayne Smith, Jaxson Williams, Trennon Burns and Kaden Dyson. Judah Wilkins contributed to the first-half fireworks as well with a pair of touchdown catches from Dyson and Elijah Roberts, respectively.

Wilkins and Wyatt Anderson added scoring runs in the second half to cap the evening.

Coach David Smothers’ squad travels to Cherokee next week. With Friday’s win, Smothers earned his 100th victory with the program.

Class 2A, Region 6

Susan Moore 34, Cold Springs 20

The Eagles held a lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs closed Friday’s tilt with a pair of touchdown scampers to hand the home team a loss in its region opener.

Matt Williams rushed for two scores, his second giving Cold Springs a 20-18 cushion. Susan Moore, however, found the end zone from 70 yards out just a few seconds later and iced the game following another touchdown with 1:47 remaining.

Ethan Day also had a touchdown run for Cold Springs (2-1, 0-1). The Eagles travel to Cleveland next week.

Class 3A, Region 5

Gordo 54, Hanceville 3

Dylan Lazaro’s 25-yard field goal in the first half accounted for the lone points in the Bulldogs’ region-opening loss to the No. 2 Green Wave on Friday night.

Hanceville (0-3, 0-1) travels to Carbon Hill next week.

Class 3A, Region 8

Sylvania 48, Holly Pond 6

The Broncos fell to the Rams in their region opener on Friday night.

Sawyer Olinger’s 36-yard touchdown run in the final quarter helped the Green and White avoid the shutout.

Holly Pond (1-2, 0-1) will look to bounce back next week against Brindlee Mountain.

Class 3A, Region 5

Phil Campbell 44, Vinemont 42 (4OT)

Kayden Henderson scored a career-high six touchdowns, but the Eagles dropped a heartbreaker to the Bobcats in a four-overtime thriller on Friday night.

The teams entered the extra periods tied at 14 and duked it out from there with clutch touchdowns and 2-point conversions (or stops).

Henderson’s final score of the contest put Vinemont (2-1, 0-1) in front 42-36, but the home squad responded with a touchdown and successful 2-point attempt to pick up the victory.

The Eagles travel to Midfield next week.
