LOCAL SPORTS: Holly Pond’s Gibbs named Athlete of the Week

Holly Pond’s Boston Gibbs led the charge in a record-setting performance last week.

The junior running back totaled 269 yards and three touchdowns on just 16 carries — good for an average of 16.8 yards per tote — to help the Broncos run wild and crazy in a 74-35 home victory over Hanceville. He also converted a 2-point conversion. 

Gibbs — along with Sawyer Olinger, Zayne Faulkner and Brody Howard — combined to rush for 517 yards en route to Holly Pond posting its highest single-game point total in program history. 

He is The Times’ Athlete of the Week.

Seth Hammack, Addison: Had 11 carries for 106 yards and a touchdown against Decatur Heritage.

Kaden Dyson, Addison: Had 13 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown against Decatur Heritage. Completed 4 of 4 passes for 102 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown pass to Owen Pratt. Had four solo tackles, five assisted tackles and 0.5 sacks.

Zayne Smith, Addison: Had a pair of touchdown runs against Decatur Heritage.


Ethan Day, Cold Springs: Completed 4 of 6 passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns against Curry.

Matt Williams, Cold Springs: Had 20 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown against Curry. Had a pair of 2-point conversions.

Cason Alexander, Cold Springs: Had two catches for 100 yards and a touchdown against Curry.

Sage Nelson, Cold Springs: Won the small-school race at the Scottsboro Invitational (17:09.34).

Macie Huffstutler, Claire Huffstutler, Paizley Whitlow, Kynzlie Myrex and Hayla Watson, Cold Springs: Helped the Eagles win the small-school team title at the Scottsboro Invitational.


Cooper Loftin, Cullman: Had 16 carries for 218 yards and three touchdowns against Mortimer Jordan.


Carson Jones, Fairview: Had 18 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns against Springville.

Jake Harper, Fairview: Had 12 carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns against Springville.

Kolt Redding, Fairview: Completed 10 of 12 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown against Springville. Had six carries for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Zayden Cruce, Fairview: Had five catches for 68 yards and a touchdown against Springville.


Parker Johnson, Good Hope: Completed 8 of 15 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown against West Point. Had 18 carries for 120 yards.

Tucker Keef, Good Hope: Had seven tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and two pass breakups against West Point. Had a 38-yard touchdown catch.

Landon Bagwell, Good Hope: Had 12 tackles (three for loss) against West Point.

Tyler Cone, Good Hope: Had three tackles, a rushing touchdown and 60 total yards against West Point.

Mason Drake, Good Hope: Had 11 tackles (one for loss) against West Point.


Hunter Black, Hanceville: Completed 16 of 29 passes for 218 yards and four touchdowns against Holly Pond. He also added 106 rushing yards and a touchdown. 


Sawyer Olinger, Holly Pond: Had eight carries for 119 yards and two touchdowns against Hanceville. Completed a 39-yard touchdown pass. Had six total tackles and one tackle for loss.

Zayne Faulkner, Holly Pond: Had 10 carries for 105 yards and three touchdowns against Hanceville. Had four solo tackles.

Brody Howard, Holly Pond: Had a 39-yard touchdown catch and 14-yard touchdown run against Hanceville.


Chad Reynolds, Vinemont: Had 29 carries for 173 yards and a touchdown against Southeastern.

Kayden Henderson, Vinemont: Had nine carries for 52 yards and a touchdown against Southeastern. Had three solo tackles and six assisted tackles.

Brandon Johnson, Vinemont: Had three solo tackles, nine assisted tackles and a forced fumble against Southeastern.

Rush Sandlin, Vinemont: Had 11 carries for 51 yards against Southeastern. Completed a touchdown pass to Tucker Robinson (20 yards). Had one solo tackle and five assisted tackles.
