Holly Pond made sure coach Will McDaniel didn’t have to sweat out his first win with the program.
Boston Gibbs and Zayne Faulkner each had three touchdown runs to power the Broncos to a 74-35 victory over Hanceville on Friday.
Sawyer Olinger (two) and Brody Howard (one) also had touchdowns runs — and the two connected during the first half for a scoring strike as well.
The 74 points are the most scored in program history for Holly Pond, according to AHSFHS.org.
“These kids have put in a lot of work,” McDaniel said. “They’ve bought in, showed up and the whole community has been unbelievable. It’s a team win, a community win and a win for Holly Pond. These people deserve it. They deserve winning football because people care and have for a long time.”
Gibbs finished with 269 yards on 16 carries. Olinger (119 yards on eight carries) and Faulkner (105 yards on 10 carries) also had big games.
Hanceville’s Hunter Black, meanwhile, accounted for all five touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) for the Bulldogs.
Holly Pond (1-1) travels to Sylvania next week for its region opener. Hanceville (0-2) heads to Gordo.
