St. Bernard's Chloe Tombo helped the Lady Saints secure the small-school team title at Saturday's Oktoberfest Invitational.

Cullman’s boys (Class 4A-7A) and St. Bernard’s girls (1A-3A) won their respective team titles at Saturday’s rain-soaked Oktoberfest Invitational.

Will Thompson nabbed a first-place performance (16:48.84) for the Bearcats, who finished 10 points ahead of Arab in the large-school division. Edgar Medina (third), Adam Mangum (fifth), Walker Huddleston (eighth) and Jackson Griffith (28th) also battled slippery conditions to deliver speedy showings.

The Lady Saints, meanwhile, were 16 points better than runner-up Altamont in the small-school division.

Chloe Tombo (second), Emma Powell (third), Claire Sanders (sixth), Sara Barck (seventh) and Aria McMillan (15th) notched the quickest outings for St. Bernard in the 10th annual cross country showdown.

Holly Pond’s Camilla Chambers won the small-school race by a healthy margin following a time of 20:30.40.

Caleb Guthery (fifth), Joseph Arriaga (seventh), Joey McCarthy (eighth), David DeJesus (13th) and Nikolas Borths (18th) provided solid efforts for St. Bernard’s boys, who placed second in the 1A-3A competition.

In other action, Cullman’s girls capped off the day with the same amount of points as Lawrence County.

Unfortunately, the tiebreaker favored the Lady Red Devils, whose sixth-place runner (27th) placed ahead of Cullman’s sixth-place runner (44th) in the 4A-7A race.

Jennifer Aviles (third), Ivy Edge (fourth), Bernarda Tizapa (ninth), Delly Kelly (10th) and  Tess Heaton (26th) contributed to the team’s runner-up showing.
