The talented Fairview athletes — each surrounded by family, friends, coaches and teammates inside the high school library — signed respective scholarships with the Lions on Monday.
McDonald inked a cross country scholarship, while McKelvy put pen to paper on a golf scholarship.
The former was a force on the trails for the Lady Aggies last year, racking up her second straight Cullman County cross country meet crown and The Times’ Class 4A-7A Girls Runner of the Year award. Along the way, she recorded top-six finishes in eight of her 10 events.
McKelvy, meanwhile, won the Fairview Invitational and grabbed an Elks Lodge Junior Golf Championship and an Alabama Junior Golf Organization (AJGO) title in 2017.

% Coach Speak: “Her mother and I are both excited for her to take that next step. It’s exciting for us and for Alex. We couldn’t be happier with the coaches at Wallace State. She stayed healthy and didn’t miss a race all year. The big thing was her consistency. Her numbers improved week to week to week. Alex had her best times in her last two races. We’re all excited for her opportunity.” — Rick McDonald

If you had told me I’d be shooting in the 60s after how I started, I would have called you crazy. I’ve been encouraged so much along the way. I just couldn’t be more thankful for the blessing that God has sent me and my family.” — Hunter McKelvy
% Coach Speak: “I’m proud of the work Hunter has put in. He understands that perfect practice makes perfect, and he strives for that every time he touches a club. He’s a tremendous leader and a great role model for our team and our school.” — Kurt Knight
