PREP HOOPS ROUNDUP: Vinemont’s boys pick up first win on buzzer-beater

CARBON HILL — Corbin Barnett’s steal and buzzer-beating layup lifted Vinemont’s boys to a 52-50 area win over Carbon Hill on Friday.
The victory was the Eagles’ first of the season.
“The whole team played tough,” Red and White coach Todd Johnson said.
Vinemont trailed by 10 points with three minutes to go before Garrett Boland and Barnett each collected a trey to trim the deficit to four. Jaython Blanton then drained two free throws and Boland sank a field goal to knot things up at 50-all with 15 seconds remaining and set up Barnett’s heroics.
Boland and Barnett each finished with 20 points, while Seth Campbell added eight.
The Eagles will welcome in Hanceville next Tuesday.
% Hanceville 76, Oakman 63: The Bulldogs used a 16-5 third quarter to overtake the Wildcats for an area victory.
Hanceville (4-5) received a double-double from R.J. Evans (19 points, 10 rebounds), while Alex Campbell and Brendan Flanigan each notched 13 points. Fred Ellis tossed in 11 as well.
% Hayden 63, Fairview 61: The Wildcats grabbed a late lead following a flagrant foul and held on for the win over the Purple and Gold.
Hayden outscored Fairview 17-11 in the fourth quarter en route to the victory.
The Aggies, which dropped to 4-6, were led by Luke Yarbrough’s 18 points. Sam Elrod (12), Truman Boyd (nine) and Bryson Fletcher (nine) also turned in strong performances in the loss.
The Purple and Gold had a couple of chances to tie the matchup in the final 10 seconds but were unable to convert on a desperation heave when time expired.
Fairview will travel to Good Hope next Tuesday.
% Cordova 66, Good Hope 40: Isaac Chatman scored a game-high 21 points to help the Blue Devils ease past the Raiders.
Isaac McDonald led Good Hope (7-2) with 12 points, while Kallen Sharpton and Mason Moniz each had six.
% Brewer 53, Cullman 24: The Bearcats struggled on offense all night en route to the tough area loss.
Cullman (4-6) has now lost four of its past five games. Stats were unavailable.
The Black and Gold will return to action next Tuesday at Boaz.

% Fairview 57, Hayden 13: The Lady Aggies nabbed their first area win of the season with a dominating outing versus the Wildcats.
Abby Schnittker scored a game-high 18 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists, while Abbi Taylor pitched in 11 points and 12 rebounds to record a double-double in the lopsided victory.
McKinna Yearwood and Taylor Ann Yeager each provided eight points to help Fairview improve to 9-2.
% Good Hope 58, Cordova 27: Kate Kent netted 18 points, while teammate Kelly Pickett added 17 in a resounding area victory over the Blue Devils.
Skylar Hembree (eight) and Savanna Derrick (seven) also had solid games for Good Hope, which moved to 5-3 this season.
% West Point 79, Curry 25: All 10 Lady Warriors scored at least three points as they improved to 9-0 on the season and 1-0 in area play.
Lexi Shadix (16), Miriam Oldacre (13), Olivia Ball (nine), Madison Roberts (nine) and Micah Oldacre (eight) were West Point’s top contributors in the easy triumph.
The Maroon and White host Cold Springs next Tuesday.
% St. Bernard 43, Winston County 41: Emma Tafazoli scored 18 points and Jaden Edge netted 13 to help the Lady Saints earn their second victory of the season and start off area play at 1-0.
St. Bernard welcomes Addison next Tuesday.
% Brewer 62, Cullman 43: The Lady Patriots quickly erased a 17-9 deficit after the first quarter to roll away with an area triumph.
Sierra Easterwood led Cullman (3-4) with 11 points, while Victoria Barker (nine) and Anna Grace Murphy (seven) also contributed.
