WALLACE STATE HOOPS: Lady Lions pick up 2 wins over weekend, men fall to Florida-based powers

HANCEVILLE — Wallace State’s women’s basketball team notched a pair of wins over the weekend in Americus, Georgia, defeating Denmark (S.C.) Technical College and Cape Fear (N.C.) Community College.

Sophomore guard Kelsey Houston poured in 17 points off the bench, and Ahziala Wright added 11 points and eight rebounds in Wallace State’s 73-58 victory over Denmark.

Freshman Joy Sadler scored eight points and collected nine rebounds for the Lady Lions, Gabby Hill had eight points, and Karlie Hudson finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Lions (3-1) also cruised past Cape Fear 70-40.

Sophomores Alex Lowery and Morgan Higgins each scored 11 points for Wallace State, Hill had nine points, Hudson finished with seven points and five rebounds, Taylor Hollingsworth scored seven points off the bench and Jemaiya Lee pitched in six points.

Wallace State’s next game is Wednesday at Volunteer State.


Wallace State men lose to Florida-based powers

Chipola College and top-ranked Northwest Florida State College each knocked off Wallace State’s men over the weekend.

Wallace State sophomore Jaylen McCoy scored 19 points behind four 3-pointers in a 69-50 loss to Chipola. Desmain Devane had nine points for the Lions, while Hunter Davis added six.

Wallace State had three players finish with double figures in an 85-56 defeat to Northwest Florida State.

Ryshante Ellis had 15 points and five rebounds for the Lions, Rashawn Green finished with 14 points and Josh Hill added 12.

Northwest Florida State, the 2015 NJCAA Division I national champion, shot 65.4 percent from the field.

Wallace State’s men also play at Volunteer State on Wednesday.
