Sports briefs: Fultondale just misses Class 2A top 10

Fultondale came close to breaking into the Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 2A high school football again, but fell just short.

The Wildcats were just below the top-10 threshold, getting six votes to finish 11th behind Colbert Heights. Fultondale had started out the year ranked ninth in the poll before losing to then-No. 5 Tanner in the third game of the season.

No other local team received any votes in the poll.

Cross country race rained out: A meet Tuesday at Pinson Valley involving Gardendale, Mortimer Jordan, Corner and Fultondale was called off due to rain. It will be run next Tuesday.
