Staff reports
The Cullman County Junior Miss Committee will hold an informational meeting at 2 p.m. on March 12 at First United Methodist Church’s Hearin Hall.
Interested high school girls in their junior year who are residents of Cullman County are eligible for the 2007 Cullman County Junior Miss Scholarship Program to be held in June 2006 in Cullman.
The committee is excited to have a local program again after two years of participating in the “at large” program. Eligible young women and their parents are encouraged to attend the March 12 informational meeting. Requirements for participating in the 2007 program will be discussed.
An informative video on the Junior Miss Program will be shown and dates for future meetings and rehearsals will be announced. Girls will be given an application that will be explained in detail. Participants are encouraged to take the ACT test so scores can be turned in with applications.
Haley Batemon, our 2006 Cullman County Junior Miss, will be present to share her experience, along with Sarah Hamm, our 2005 Cullman County Junior Miss and Alabama’s Junior Miss First Runner-Up.
The Cullman County Junior Miss Scholarship Program awards cash scholarships to the outstanding young women of Cullman County. Over the last eight years, $25,250.00 has been awarded to our winners.
Scholarships will be awarded in eight categories. These include winner, first runner up, second runner up, Spirit of Junior Miss, scholastic achievement winner, talent winner, poise winner and fitness winner.
The Junior Miss Program is judged as follows: judges’ interview 25%, talent 25%, scholastic achievement 20%, fitness 15%, and self-expression 15%.
Eligible young women who are interested but unable to attend the March 12 informational meeting should contact Dianne Moyer at (256) 734-8304 or Patty Grier at (256) 734-8184 to get an application.
Because the application requires a good deal of preparation, they should be obtained as close to the March 12 date as possible.
