Corner won their seventh straight game on Tuesday night as they stung Curry 70-51.

“We’ve been playing good, we’ve won seven in a row and we started playing a little better since the first of the year,” said Corner coach Billy Conner.

Despite bringing momentum into the contest with back-to-back area wins, Curry was unable to slow the host team and their dynamic power forward.

Apparently no one told senior Austin Sanford that it is okay to miss a shot here and there. The bottom of the net seemed to magnetically attract the ball every time it left the hand of Sanford as he shot successfully on 15 of his 18 attempts (83 percent) for 37 points on the night. And he went 9-for-11 from the free throw line.

“[Sanford] can score when he wants to score,” said Conner. “He’s not very tall, but he’s very athletic and he can handle his body good around the rim.”

Sanford scored 19 of his points in the first half while Corner shot 55 percent  from the field as a team. Their deadly accuracy gave the home team a fat 40-26 lead at intermission.

The lead grew in the final 16 minutes due to Curry’s inability to contain Sanford and the Corner offense, which stayed aggressive despite the comfortable lead.

They continued attacking the rim, which put them at the charity stripe seven times in the second half, compared to Curry’s two trips.

Corner will need more of that aggression as they visit archrival Hayden on Thursday, followed by their final area game on Friday night against Carbon Hill.
