Carolyn Diane ‘Pokey’ Maynard

Carolyn Diane “Pokey” Maynard, 58, of Cullman died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at her residence in Cullman. Maynard was employed by Palco Telecom in Huntsville and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was born on Sept. 15, 1947, to James E. and Vera Ogie McIntosh Maynard.

Williams-McCracken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Joan Allred, Beverly Maynard and Judy Maynard; and a brother-in-law, Ed Allred.

Survivors include one sister, Ruth Voyles of Cullman; one brother, Wade (Marie) Maynard of Cullman; nieces and nephews, Katie (Jared) Osborne, Chelsea Maynard, Scott Allred and David Allred; and a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Shea Hankey, Al Morrison, Terry Maynard, Larry Cornelius, Don Chambers and Daniel Hendrix.

Jessie Maynard will be honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at Williams-McCracken Funeral Home, Samuel Tucker and Clenon Shedd officiating. Interment will be at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Cullman.



Laura Evelyn Tucker Hataway

Laura Evelyn Tucker Hataway, 82, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at her Montgomery residence after an extended struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on April 15, 1923, to Ervin M. and Ruth Bradford Tucker of Cullman.

Moss-Service Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She attended the University of Montevallo before graduating from Auburn University. She taught in various Alabama school systems including Cullman city and county schools for 30 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Daniel “Dan” Hataway of Montgomery; two daughters, Cheri (Ronald) Apel of Cullman and Carole (Rex) McDaniel of Ozark; one sister, Hilda Tucker (Jack) Riley of Cullman; five grandchildren, Hank (Julie) Apel and Kurt (Megan) Apel, both of Cullman, Dana (Andy) Baron, Fran McDaniel and Caroline McDaniel, all of Ozark; and three great-grandchildren, Emily Grace and Tucker Apel of Cullman and Russ Baron of Ozark.

Pallbearers were Hank Apel, Kurt Apel, Andy Baron, Erv Riley, Ronald Apel and Rex McDaniel.

Honorary pallbearers were Walter McNabb Jr. of Huntsville and Dudley “Sonny” Chandler of Cullman.

Visitation was Sunday.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cullman City Cemetery, Joe Shane officiating, minister of Baldwin Heights Church of Christ.

The family requests that in celebration of Mrs. Hataway’s life, memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Research Center, 640 Jackson St., St. Paul, MN 55101-2595.



Vora Lillian Nelson

Funeral services for Vora Lillian Nelson, 82, of Cullman, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel, Russ Fox officiating, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nelson died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 20, 1923 to Henry and Annie Dera. She was a nurses’ aide and Thornton homemaker.

Mrs. Nelson was a dearly beloved wife, mother and grandmother (Gran-Gran) to not only family but to all of the many lives she touched. She lived life to the fullest and always had a kind word to say to all. Mama, you will be missed by all who entered into your life.

Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Annie Dera Brannon Thornton; a son, Daryl Nelson; a sister, Valena Prestridge; six brothers, Alvin, Bryant, Grady, Arthur, William and Earnest Thornton; and her husband, Hershel Nelson.

Survivors include two sons, Marlin Nelson and Randy (Jamie) Nelson; a daughter, June (Doug) Reid; two sisters, Gwen Wyche and Melba Beatte; 14 grandchildren, Jeff, Jason, Mike, Corey, Wes, Andy, Will, and Ally Reid, Markus, Chris Nelson, Chadd Patrick Nelson, Taylor and Mayson Hulsey; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation beings at 6 p.m. today.



W.N. Busbin

Funeral services for W.N. Busbin, 78, of Decatur will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Howard Leslie officiating, with burial in Cullman Heritage Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Busbin died Saturday, Jan. 14 at his residence.



Fannie Pauline Cupp

Funeral services for Fannie Pauline Cupp, 85, of Cullman were on Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Hanceville Funeral Home, the Rev. Randy Sellers officiating, with burial in Emeus Cemetery.

Hanceville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cupp died Saturday, Jan. 14 in Cullman. She was born in Cullman on Dec. 3, 1920, to G.C. “Bill” and Minnie Godsby Cagle.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include a son, Terry (Jackie) Cupp of Cullman; a daughter, Beverly (fiancé Andy Hendrix) Johnson of Cullman; two grandsons, Dewayne (Tabitha) Cupp and Jared Johnson, both of Cullman; two granddaughters, Tamara (Mike) Cooper of Warrior and Gidgett (Floyd) McLamb of Addison; six great-grandchildren, Terry, Austin, Kayla and Whitney Cupp, Austin and Hayden McLamb; a brother, B.C. Cagle; a sister, Marie Tolbert; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Floyd McLamb, Ricky Tyree, Johnny McKinney, Hubert Tolbert, Vernon Cagle and Butch Cupp.

Visitation was Sunday.



Rosette ‘Rose’ Marks

Funeral services for Rosette “Rose” Marks, 76, of Eva, formerly of Holly Pond, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at Holly Pond Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Tim Kinney officiating, with burial in Union Grove Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Marks died Sunday, Jan. 15 in Eva. She was born in Cullman County to James Morgan and Amanda Jane Shedd Brooks. She was retired from Nicholson File.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, J. W. Marks.

Survivors include a son, James “Bo” Marks of Eva; two daughters, Sherry Marks Duke and Linda Marks Marconi, both of Eva; two sisters, Sylvia Bateman and Belle White, both of Holly Pond; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.



James Morris Moody

Funeral services for James Morris Moody, 65, of Blountsville will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at Blountsville Funeral Home Chapel, Michael Murphree officiating, with burial in South Cemetery near Blountsville.

Blountsville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moody died Sunday, Jan. 15 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.



Tineth Boyd

Funeral services for Tineth Boyd, 77, of Decatur were on Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Roselawn Chapel, the Rev. Marty Steelmon officiating, with burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.

Roselawn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Boyd died Saturday, Jan. 14 at his residence. He was born Nov. 17, 1928, to Ackermon Leon “A.L.” and Thirsa Frost Boyd. He was a carpenter, retired from Alabama Power in Birmingham.

Survivors include his wife, Lora Louise Boyd of Cullman; a daughter, Donna Cannon (Billy) Posey Caddo; three stepchildren, Tammy Evans of Georgia and Michael Evans and Richard Evans, both of Cullman; one sister, Olean (Jady) Bailey of Cullman; one son, Terry Buillion Boyd of Decatur; two brothers, L.D. (Ann) Boyd, Lynn (Jo) Boyd, both of Eva; two grandsons; five great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

Visitation was Sunday.



Joyce E. Sandlin Laminack

Funeral services for Joyce E. Sandlin Laminack, 59, of Diamondhead, Miss., formerly of Hanceville, will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at Robinwood Baptist Church, with burial in Biloxi National Cemetery. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home of Gulfport, Miss., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Laminack died Sunday, Jan. 15 at Gulfport Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, Miss. She was born in Cullman County on June 12, 1946, to Earlie Maloy and Orpha Bee McCombs Sandlin. She was a devoted wife and mother and was loved by all. She was an active member of Robinwood Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Joe E. Laminack; two daughters, Cindy (Nat) Keating and Kim (Brent) Turner; five grandchildren, Amanda Galloway, Kristie Keating, Rendy Ladner, Arin Ladner and Dillan Turner; her mother, Bee Sandlin of Cullman; one sister, Sandra (Butch) Luna of Hanceville; one brother, Wayne (Kathy) Sandlin of Cullman; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
