Adoption

Helping adoptive and foster parents serve children whose circumstances can sometimes be adverse is the focus of an upcoming two-day live simulcast conference hosted by West Point Baptist Church.

In partnership with the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at Texas Christian University, the church will greet families, church members, and care professionals in April for the “Empowered to Connect” conference.

The conference features intervention methods for adopted and foster children developed by Dr. Purvis and Dr. David Cross, with the goal of nurturing “attachment and connection in families,” according to the institute.

The goal of the ministry is to offer practical teaching in a safe and supportive environment, using the institute’s teachings to provide “practical ways to begin the healing journey many children desperately need.”

Slated for Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6, the 9 a.m.-5 p.m. event also offers the opportunity for licensed professionals to obtain credit toward their continuing education requirements (a separate registration is required, and credit is granted at the discretion of the sponsoring agency.) The National Association of Social Workers has approved the conference for 11 continuing education credits.
