A popular Gulf Coast restaurant is making plans to open in Cullman.
The Shrimp Basket, founded in Gulf Shores, will open in the central business district of Cullman in 2019.
Mayor Woody Jacobs and the Cullman City Council made the announcement Friday.
Scott von Cannon and Jeff Sommers with Retail Strategies notified the city of the lease for The Shrimp Basket on Friday. The business will be located in the former Title Max building at 716 2nd Avenue, N.W., across from Cullman Shopping Center.
“They wanted to be in the center of town and will do renovations to the building,” Susan Eller of Cullman Economic Development Agency said. “I know they have been looking quite some time for a location that was suitable. They wanted to take a standing building and renovate that to their standards, which is good to a see a property find new life.”
The Shrimp Basket has several locations across the state.
The restaurant was founded in 1993 by two Gulf Shores residents who wanted to open a family-friendly seafood restaurant. In the 25 years since the opening, The Shrimp Basket has expanded into five states across the Southeast.
Specializing in shrimp and other seafood items, the restaurant also offer appetizers and a selection of sandwiches and salads for customers.
