I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am so glad the presidential election is finally over. Now we get to see all the “changes” that were promised to all Americans. Good or bad, we will soon find out.

• There will be a Veteran’s Day ceremony Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Veteran’s Park, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, it will be held at city hall. Mayor Jim Lowery will host the opening ceremony and Bruce Herndon will be the guest speaker. New names that have been added to the wall will be read aloud. Please make plans to attend and honor our veterans.

• The Fultondale Fire Department is looking for an old car that they can use to practice on. If someone has one to donate, please call me at 841-4481 and I will let them know.

• The Fultondale Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be Nov. 22 at Black Creek Park. Refreshments will be served from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. Walker Chapel Baptist Quartet will be singing and the guest speaker will be the new mayor of Gardendale, Othell Phillips. This is a good way to kick off the holiday season, so please make plans to attend.

• The City of Fultondale held their inauguration this past Monday night and Judge Alan King was here to swear in the mayor and council. King said he was honored to take part in this great day in Fultondale. A resolution was made to appoint Joe Bolton as the mayor pro-tem. He replaces Greg Morris who has held that position since 1996. A special thanks to Greg for his hard work. Also, a resolution was made to appoint Larry Holcomb as fire chief. He replaces Buster Crumpton, who has been with the department for more than 14 years and has done a great job. A special thanks to Buster for all he has done for the City of Fultondale.

• The Northern Area Realtor Caravan will be holding their Christmas Breakfast and Auction fundraiser at the Gardendale Civic Center on Dec. 3 at 8 a.m. If anyone would like to sponsor a table, the cost is $150 for a table of eight. If you would like to purchase just a breakfast ticket, the cost is $15. If you need more information, contact Mike Mealer at 531-0326.

• Attention local businesses — Prepare now for the Storefront Christmas Contest presented by the Fultondale Chamber of Commerce. Outdoor decorations must be seen from the street or parking lot. Indoor decorations must be visible through a window that is seen from the street or parking lot. Decorations must be tasteful and in the Christmas spirit. Decorating must be completed by Dec. 5. Judging will take place Dec. 6-8. The goal is to have every business light up our city for the holidays.

• The holiday season is just around the corner and can be a very depressing and stressful time for a lot of people. Please try to remember the reason for the season — you never know what someone may be going through.

• A happy twelfth anniversary wish to Jerry and Elise Goodwin on Nov. 9. We hope they have a wonderful anniversary and many more to come.

• A happy birthday wish to our good friend and the best lemon cake baker, Mrs. Polly Goodwin, on Nov. 11. Ms Polly has not been feeling very well lately. Please remember her in your prayers and maybe give her a call. We hope she has a great birthday.

• Birthday wishes go to Brenda Hawkins of the Fultondale Gas Department on Nov. 12. We hope she has a wonderful birthday.

• Please remember to pray for our military and our country.
