Yay! Friday!…

Be on the lookout. Gardendale Police are looking for 20-year-old Morgan Bell, who is charged with attempted murder and first-degree robbery for an incident on Sept. 4 where she and accomplices are accused of robbing a man on Cullman Road. Police say Bell is considered armed and dangerous. Here’s the full story.

Two years. That’s how long Elsie Thomas of Corner has sentenced to prison for her manslaughter conviction in the killing of her ex-husband. Thomas shot Matt with a shotgun in his Hayden home in 2011. Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey had sought the maximum 20 years. Thomas’ attorney said they will appeal the conviction.

Aye? No. Voters in Scotland have opted to keep their 300-year-long union with Great Britain intact. In Thursday’s referendum, voters turned down the question of independence for Scotland by 55 percent to 45. A late surge by the “Better Together” anti-independence movement carried the day, as pre-election polls saw those favoring independence with a narrow lead last week.

Sports: Friday night is all right. Time for high school football again, and the NJN Big Game this week goes north of the county line as Locust Fork hosts eighth-ranked Oneonta. The Hornets are a perfect 4-0 going into the game. Elsewhere, there’s Gardendale at Center Point in a game that has strong playoff implications for the Rockets – if they win, they’re in the post-season, in all likelihood. There’s also No. 2 Clay-Chalkville at Pinson Valley, Fultondale travels to Beulah, fourth-ranked Mortimer Jordan hosts St. Clair County, Corner welcomes neighboring Dora, and Hayden hosts Moody. Tabernacle Christian has the week off… Volleyball: Pinson Valley got off to a good start, but Huffman came back to win in five sets Thursday night. The Indians remain winless in area play.
