Cullman baseball coach Brent Patterson collected his 500th victory on Tuesday following a 1-0 win over Jasper in a Class 6A, Area 13 contest.

Cooper Loftin recorded a one-hit shutout, striking out seven to help the Bearcats improve to 11-11 on the season. Bennett Johnson’s solo homer in the first inning, meanwhile, accounted for Cullman’s lone run.

For Patterson, the milestone win is one rightfully shared.

“A lot of people say this, but there couldn’t be any more truth to it — I’ve been surrounded by unbelievable players and coaches,” said Patterson, who took over the program in 2009. “The memories and relationships are what I’ll take away from all this … that’s what makes this so special. Cullman has supported this baseball program for decades and I’m grateful to play a part in it.

“But I’m much more proud of the way Cooper pitched and how our guys competed in a really clean, hard-fought game to get that first area win.”
