City school board raising pay for nutrition program substitutes

After previously raising substitute teacher and support staff pay rates over the last two months, the Cullman City School Board voted Tuesday night to raise the pay for the system’s Child Nutrition Program substitutes.

The board approved an increase from $60 per day to $75 per day for cafeteria substitutes.

The meeting also featured several recognitions for the system’s students and schools.

The Cullman High School FFA Forestry Judging team was recognized by the board for their recent state championship. Members include Drew Conway, Cameron Starnes, Jack West and Garrett Lee, who was the second highest scoring individual in the state.

Cullman High School’s Charlie Worley was also recognized for building bird houses for the Cullman City Primary School Outdoor Learning Center for his Eagle Scout project.

East Elementary School and Cullman City Primary School were recognized for winning 2019 Cullman County People Against a Littered State Beautification Awards, and CCPS received an additional honor from PALS by finishing in second place in the Primary/Elementary School division of the Clean Campus Award.

In other business, the board:

Approved August 2019 payroll of $2,035,774.48, invoices paid of $598,834.48, financial statements and bank reconciliations.

Approved the following Head Start items: Expenditures Report for August 2019, Health/Nutrition/Disabilities/Enrollment Report for August 2019.

Gave permission to salvage one 16 GB iPad Mini and one Sanyo TV from Cullman City Primary School.

Approved an Interpreter Services Agreement between Cullman City Schools and the 

Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind beginning Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with Communication and Reading Therapies, Inc. to provide individual language evaluations beginning Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2020 (Special Education funds).

Gave permission to enter into an agreement with Wellstone, Inc. to provide mental health treatment services for students beginning Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with Applied Behavioral Concepts, Inc. to provide consultant/behavioral support services beginning Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with ENT Associates on Alabama, P.C. to provide special education audiological services beginning Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with Bridges Behavior Therapy & Consulting to provide behavior analytic services beginning Oct. 1 through Aug. 31, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with Brook’s Place to provide mental health services beginning Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with Dr. Bryan Boozer to conduct vision and hearing screenings beginning Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with Tammy Sargent, psychometrist, to provide special education services/testing beginning Oct. 1 though Sept. 30, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with Ramona Evans to conduct evaluations, consultation, mobility and orientation services for visually impaired students beginning Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with Beth Wooten to provide auditory verbal based therapies beginning Oct. 1 through Sept. 20, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with Kelli Hughes to conduct student individual evaluations outside of the contract day, beginning Sept. 17 through Sept. 30, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with Lauren Hathcock to provide education services beyond 3:15 p.m. on an as-needed basis beginning Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with the following to provide homebound instruction beginning Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2020: Kelly Thrasher, Sara McCutcheon, Sue Melvin and Danielle Taylor.

Gave permission to contract with the following to provide translating and/or interpreting services for the 2019-2020 school year- not to exceed 19.5 hours per week: Arleen Solis-Dominguez, Yenny Laney and Juan Nava.

Gave permission to contract with Karla Rodriguez to provide translating and/or interpreting services as needed for the 2019-2020 school year (not to exceed five hours per week).

Gave permission to contract with Lucero Michaus-Lejarazo to provide translating of documents into Spanish as needed to prepare for the 2019-2020 school year (not to exceed five hours per week).

Gave permission to contract with Dori Potter to provide nursing services for early morning/extended day at West Elementary School beginning Sept. 1 through Sept. 30, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with Sharon Drake to assist the Technology Coordinator with various technology projects and assist the Technology Integration Specialist in training teachers beginning Sept. 1 through Aug. 31, 2020.

Gave permission to contract with Diane Lw to provide secretarial/receptionist duties beginning Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2020.

Approved Cullman City Head Start by-laws.
