WEST POINT — Coaches for the Town of West Point’s sports leagues have a new plan in place in case of an emergency after the West Point Town Council approved a contingency plan during Monday night’s regular meeting.
Mayor Gerald Schafer said the plan is required for all coaches.

“You’ve got to have it all in place of how we’re going to handle it,” Schafer said. “You’ve got to have it all written down.”
Town Attorney Dan Willingham said he wrote the plan to make sure it covers every contingency that he thought could occur, including situations like a medical emergency, a missing child or an active shooter.
“It’s pretty broad in what it can cover,” he said. “Frankly, the likelihood of needing any of it is remote, I hope.”
Along with its use for coaches in the town’s sports leagues, it also covers other town properties like rentals at the Town Hall, Willingham said.
“I put it where it covers pretty much everything,” he said.
In other business, the council also approved the annual renewal of AirEvac coverage to West Point residents.

The $2,900 cost to provide the coverage to town residents is the same as last year’s cost and was already in the town’s budget, Schafer said.
“I think it would be a good thing,” he said.
