Smith Lake Invitational: No. 4 Corner continues hot start with 5 wins in Jasper

- The fourth-ranked Corner softball team beat West Point 13-1 in the Smith Lake Invitational championship game Saturday night.
Corner senior Ivey Hill was a force on Saturday in the Smith Lake Invitational.
In the tournament championship game against West Point, Hill pitched all four innings and swung the bat at a rate of four RBIs on three hits for the Yellow Jackets in a 13-1 victory. Corner won three straight games on Saturday in bracket play, beating Shades Valley 3-1, Lamar County 9-4 and West Point 13-1.

Along with her massive offensive output, Hill also led the defensive efforts against West Point. The lefty tossed a complete game in the tournament finals with one run allowed on four West Point hits.
As a team, Corner stung the Warriors with 14 hits in the win. Both first baseman Lauren Dill and catcher Lauren Higginbotham delivered with two RBIs.
Corner played host to Class 6A Pinson Valley on Monday and sent the Indians home with an 11-3 road loss. Another big offensive night ended with 13 hits, including three alone from senior third baseman Brantly Bonds, who drove in two runs. Hill slapped in three more runs and earned another win in the circle.
The Yellow Jackets (9-3) debuted at No. 4 in the first Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 5A poll last week, and currently hold a 2-0 record in Area 11 play thanks to a 15-0 win over Dora and a 4-1 victory over Mortimer Jordan.
Corner hosts the Blue Devils Monday night.
