The win improves No. 7 Mortimer Jordan to 8-1 on the year, including a 6-0 mark in Class 5A, Region 5.
Junior quarterback Kourtlan Marsh accounted for both a touchdown run and pass in the first half, which ended with the Blue Devils leading 42- 7. Marsh took off for an 81-yard score on the first play of the second quarter and later ended the frame with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Luke Parks. He ended the game with 101 yards on the ground and another 59 yards through the air.
As a team, Mortimer Jordan ran for 399 yards against Springville (3-6, 1-5). Four different Blue Devil backs found their way to the end zone, all in the first half of play:
- Daniel Franklin scored twice from 5 yards out.
- Colby Mixon ran 2 yards for a 14-7 lead late in the first quarter.
- Kourtlan Marsh scored on an 81-yard run with 11:44 remaining in the second.
- Keondrick Hankins ran in from 48 yards out for a 28-7 lead on the next drive.
Springville drew first blood with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Austin Hutcheson to Cameron Bonner in the first quarter. The Tigers wouldn’t score again until the 3:08 mark of the final frame.
Mortimer Jordan outgained the visitors 458-209.
The Blue Devils finish the regular season next week at Moody.

Corner 14, West Point 6
The homestanding Corner Yellow Jackets will look back on 2018 senior night with happy memories, as it ended with a 14-6 win over West Point.
Both teams traded punts throughout the first half of action. Corner’s first five possessions ended in punts and their sixth and final possession of the half ended with quarterback Colin Daniel taking a knee.
The second half found two teams with a newfound sense of offensive urgency. West Point received the second half kickoff and found themselves against their own goal line. Warriors quarterback Rylan Jones launched a long pass from his own end zone and connected with receiver Kolton Sapp for a 46-yard completion.
Later in the drive, facing fourth down from Corner’s 16-yard line, Will Cochran found Sapp with a short pass and the senior receiver weaved his way to the end zone midway through the third quarter. West Point missed the PAT and lead 6-0.
After giving up the 99-yard touchdown drive, Corner made the most of its third quarter possession. Facing fourth down from the visitor’s 26, Colin Daniel passed to senior running back Garrett Purvis to take an 8-6 lead to the fourth.
Corner later capitalized on some good field position, as Nick Brashear scampered over the goal line from 3 yards out with 7:05 remaining. Corner missed the PAT and led 14-6.
After receiving the ensuing kickoff, West Point drove the ball to Corner’s 37 yard line, but Corner senior Nolan Berger stepped in front of a Cochran pass and Corner took possession of the ball at West Point’s 48-yard line.
Senior Night ended with the home team getting in victory formation.
Corner travels next week to take on Region 7 foe Lawrence Co.
