Cullman Regional just got a little taller after a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the hospital’s newest expansion.

The $20 million expansion added a new floor to the hospital, providing 30 more patient beds and bringing 100 new jobs.

Cullman Regional CEO James Clements said the construction of the hospital’s fifth floor shows Cullman Regional’s commitment to keeping up with the growth of Cullman and surrounding areas.

“This project is another example of the hospital growing to meet the needs of our community,” he said. “We are so grateful for the community’s support and from our governing board to be able to make this happen.”

Cullman Regional operates with a “patients first,” mentality, and the upgraded accommodations of the fifth floor will help the hospital continue to provide better care and support for patients and their families, Clements said.

Cullman Economic Development Agency Director Dale Greer said the expansion of Cullman Regional is coming at a time when many other hospitals are struggling to stay afloat.

“They’re not expanding. They’re not doing what we are,” he said. “And other communities are envious of that.”

The continued success of the hospital is also helping recruit businesses into the area, because companies want their employees and families to have access to good healthcare, Greer said.

“Cullman is experiencing some tremendous industrial growth and retail growth, and this hospital gets a lot of credit for that,” he said.

Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce President Leah Bolin echoed Greer’s statement, and said Cullman Regional has also won a lot of awards and gotten a lot of recognition for the quality of healthcare that it provides to the area, and the people of the community recognize that.

“I think it speaks volumes to see that what we have here in our community is a jewel,” she said.
