“Family Fun Day is a great way for people of all ages to get outside and explore what our parks have to offer,” said Emily Vanderford, a naturalist with the state parks system and one of the event organizers. “Last year the event was held at Paul M. Grist in Dallas County and reintroduced many people to their local state park. We encourage Rickwood regulars and those who’ve never visited the park to attend the event and create new family memories.”

The event will feature cave tours, geology seminars, gem mining, swimming, archery, geocaching, guided hikes, live animal education programs and live music.

In honor of the 2016 Olympics Games, kids can also compete in the “Cannonball Challenge” to see who can create the biggest splash from the pool diving boards.

Exhibitors include the Alabama State Parks Division, Alabama State Parks Partners, Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, the Alabama Wildlife Center, Oak Mountain Interpretive Center, and more.

Come for Family Fun Day and stay overnight – campsites are still available. For more information or to reserve a campsite, call 205-647-9692 or email RickwoodCaverns.StPk@dcnr.alabama.gov.
