Magnolia Festival opens Friday night

Gardendale’s biggest gathering of the year gets underway at 5 tonight, as the 2013 edition of the Magnolia Festival opens at the Civic Center.

The festival’s rides and attractions will be open from 5 until 10 tonight, then again from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Admission is free, and the event will be held rain or shine, except in case of severe weather.
