Cross County: Mortimer Jordan boys place 11th at state finals

- Mortimer Jordan’s Will Harris comes down the home stretch at the AHSAA State Cross County Championships.
After a season where they rolled past nearly all their competition, Mortimer Jordan’s boys team found the opposition much tougher at the AHSAA State Cross Country Championship at Oakville Indian Mounds Park on Saturday, finishing in 11th place in Class 5A.

Ben Barnett was the top finisher for the Blue Devils, placing 32nd with a time of 18:07.10 over the 5k course.
Gatlin Holland placed 57th, Daniel Barnett 81st, Michael Carter 85th, Will Harris 116th and Jake Holland 118th out of 167 runners, to give Jordan at team score of 276 points.
Scottsboro placed its top six runners in the top 15 to run away with the 5A championship. Lee Griffin of John Carroll Catholic led all individuals with a time of 16:13.11.
In the girls 5A race, Jordan’s two individual runners, Lindsey Williams and Haley Gilliam, finished in 112th and 138th place, respectively.
In Class 1A-2A girls, Fultondale runner Mayda Alcantara placed 28th with a time of 22:05.99.
