It was the first time a race was run on the cross country course around Gardendale High’s new campus on Thursday, and there were a few wrong turns along the way.
But even the unfamiliar surroundings weren’t enough to keep Mortimer Jordan’s boys from yet another team victory, as they placed five runners in the top 10 spots to defeat runner-up Oneonta by 37 points. Center Point placed third. Gardendale was fifth and Fultondale eighth out of 11 teams.
The Redskins’ Alex Gilliland led the field with a time of 16:43. Jordan’s Ben Barnett was eight seconds behind him.
In the girls division, Center Point prevailed in a tight finish among the top four teams, beating Shades Valley by eight points and Clay-Chalkville by 13, with Gardendale close behind. Mayda Aloantara of Fultondale won individually.
