Gas station only game in town Thursday

- Kristi and Trevor Liber of Corner pump gas Thursday morning at Wayne’s Package Store BP station in Warrior. At the time, the store was the only one in the area with gas available, as it was operating off of a generator. They waited in line an hour for the fuel. A long string of cars can be seen behind the Libers and along Cane Creek road.
One Warrior gas station and convenience store was the only one open for miles around Thursday, as evidenced by the long, long line.
Wayne’s Package Store BP station defied the county’s lack of electricity by using a generator to run the store, including the gas pumps.
Traffic was back up at least a half mile down Cane Creek Road toward Warrior as motorists patiently – for the most part – waited in line for gas.
Kristi Liber and her son Trevor, of Corner, waited in line for an hour. They were only two cars away from the gas pumps when the store announced it was closing the pumps.
But Liber said the pumps re-opened almost immediately, so she was able to gas up. The store was not rationing gas – an employee inside the store said customers could buy as much as they wanted.
Liber, with a glance at the very long line behind her, said she was not going to fill the tank, however, so there would be more fuel for others.
The Warrior Police Department sent officers to the gas station to control traffic, as cars were pouring into every entrance before officers’ arrival.
Other stations were reportedly open on Friday.
