The resolution that created the committee says its purpose is to promote the business economy of Gardendale “through the collaborative exchange of fresh ideas among a diverse cross section of the community.”

In addition to Gardendale Mayor Othell Phillips, Chamber of Commerce President Lamar Kelly and Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Jack Fields, the committee also consists of four Gardendale business owners or operators in good standing who serve two-year terms and two current Gardendale residents who serve one-year terms. City Attorney Ken Thompson and a commercial realtor serve in advisory roles.

The four business owners and operators appointed at the meeting are Kevin Green, Mike Holmes, Michael Lloyd and Dean Taylor. Dwayne Jeffreys and Frank Montgomery fill the Gardendale citizen spots.

The committee’s duties include proposing a vision statement for the city; identifying reasons to live, work, play and invest in Gardendale; examining other city plans for economic development; and hiring a professional economic consultant for the city; among others.
