Wrestling: Jordan passes bigger schools, places second in Georgia

- Mortimer Jordan, with (left to right) Coach Terry Tingle, Josh Pate, Justin Maze, Travis Shellnut, Dillon Hawkins, Jake Jasper and Coach Chris King, took second place at the Dalton Carpet Classic last Saturday in Georgia.
Mortimer Jordan placed six wrestlers in third place or better in their respective weight classes, as they came in second over a field of much larger schools in Saturday’s Dalton Carpet Classic wrestling tournament.

The Blue Devils finished behind the winners from Northwest Whitfield of Tunnel Hill, Ga. Lovejoy (Hampton, Ga.) placed third.
Travis Shellnut won the 125-pound class, and Brandon Brindley won at 140 pounds. Colt Alvis was runner-up at 103 pounds, and Dillon Hawkins took second at 160.
Jacob Jasper was third at 152 pounds, as was Austin Underwood at 135. Josh Pate placed fourth at 172.
The tournament featured competitors from 18 schools, most from northern Georgia.
