Mortimer Jordan’s boys team and Hayden’s girls were winners Tuesday, as the cross country season got underway with a meet at Pinson Valley.

The Wildcats girls took five of the top six places, with Krista Stricklin taking first individually. Jordan’s Haylie McCleney was second, followed by Mary Burkey, Peyton Boyd, Grayson Taylor and Samantha Ashley for Hayden.

The Blue Devil boys placed five in the top nine as they beat Oneonta and Hayden. Gaitlin Holland was third overall, Michael Carter fourth and Jeff Hall fifth for Jordan. Darien Craig was the top runner for Hayden in 11th place, followed by Luke Walls in 12th and Houston Launius in 15th.

The teams race again September 9 at Jordan.
