Haul out the holly along with the sunscreen

During this summer heat, it seems preposterous to talk about Christmas… right? Well, to some shoppers, Christmas is already beginning to be shoved down their throats.

Stores are already starting to slash prices on their gardening and outside toys. Which leaves them no option but to break out the Christmas apparel. That’s right, Christmas has sprung and it’s in our malls already.
Here we stand at the last day of June, talking of Christmas decorations. It does seem wrong, but this is what modernized America is like. Breathe it in, citizens. We live in a world that is driven by economic standards. Everyone is looking for a way to make more money. And this just might be a good answer.
I cannot tell a lie, last week, I put in a Christmas CD while driving down the road with my kids. My only reasoning was that it was blazing hot and maybe Christmas music could subconsciously cool us down. You know, I think it might have worked.
So maybe, just maybe, these stores aren’t just trying to make an extra buck by being the very first store to bring out the holly. Maybe they are trying to help us all cool off by offering spray snow and Christmas trees.
Either way, I refuse to buy Christmas in July. It’s just wrong. How do you explain to your kids that Christmas is still six month away, while hauling in the new and improved door wreath?
It would kill me to buy a beautiful nativity scene and then have to store it in a closet for another six months. It would be on display on the fireplace all through September and October. I love to break out the decorations early myself, but this is a little ridiculous. If you, too, think this is going a little over the top, then refuse to buy your decorations until a more suitable time; like about November.
