Do not go to Brookside on Saturday looking for a festival.

With experts predicting a 90-percent chance of rain for the day, organizers have postponed the annual Brookside Greenway Festival, originally set for Saturday, to May 1.

The event will be at the Bensko ball fields at the same time, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will still feature arts and crafts, food vendors, music, informational booths and plenty of outdoors activities.

Also postponed is the camp-out at the festival site, which will now be held April 30. There is no charge to camp, but festival organizer Staci Glover requests that campers email her at ssglover@bellsouth.net so she will get an idea of how many people to expect.

Glover also invites festival-goers to drive over to the Brookside Community Center at 2 p.m. to see the Miss Greenway Pageant, which was always scheduled for May 1.

The Brookside Greenway Festival is a part of a much larger effort to develop a large greenway, an area set aside for environmental preservation or recreation, across Jefferson County.

All funds raised through Brookside’s festival go toward developing the Brookside portion of the greenway.

There is already evidence from the three previous festivals of how proceeds have been put to good use, according to Francesca Gross, Five Mile Creek Partnership coordinator. She said there is a new hiking trail in Brookside and a new campground being developed.
