Civitan tourney to benefit charities

As our weather turns nicer, the Gardendale Civitan Club is trying to lure hibernating golfers out of their homes and onto the links, all in the name of a good cause.
The Civitan Club will host its 11th Annual Golf Tournament on April 10. The event will again be held at the Cullman Golf Club.
Club member James Walker says the tournament helps raise money for a variety of charities, including the Civitan International Research Center at UAB. “They use our donations as seed money to help researchers secure much larger government grants for projects,” Walker said.
Tournament proceeds also go to help Gardendale’s Miracle League, as well as a new scholarship fund by the club for local high school students. “We’re hoping to develop that into a self-sustaining fund,” Walker said.
Club members are currently soliciting sponsorships from businesses and individuals, ranging from $50 for a scoreboard sponsorship to $500 for a gold sponsorship. They’re also seeking door prizes to give away to golfers.
The entry fee for players is $75 each, with a three-mulligan add-on package available for $15 more.
To enter the tournament or place a sponsorship, contact any Gardendale Civitan Club member. You may also call walker at 631-5814, or send email to jw2804@att.com.
