Council members celebrated with a reception on Jan. 15 at the Gardendale Civic Center.

The organization is best known for two events it sponsors every year: A flower show every April and a tasting luncheon every November.

Five area garden clubs make up the council: Dixie Gardeners of Palmerdale, Magnolia Garden Club of Warrior, and three Gardendale clubs: Blue Star, Garden Dale and Twin Oaks.

The council is a member of the Third District of Garden Clubs.

“We participate in a lot of their activities at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens,” said Maurene Guffin, secretary of the north end council.

Guffin has been a member of the Garden Dale Garden Club since the 1960s.

“At that time there were 17 clubs,” she said. “The North End Council would really like to see new clubs formed in growing communities like Morris, Kimberly, Brookside and Fultondale. That’s one of our greatest desires.”
