Census Jobs

Oct. 15, 10 a.m. Applications will be accepted at the Gardendale-Martha Moore Public Library, 995 Mt. Olive Road, for full-time and part-time positions with the U.S. Census Bureau. Applicants from Gardendale, Kimberly, Morris, County LIne and Trafford areas especially needed. Arrive 15 minutes early for the 30-minute timed test. Bring passport or employment authorization document. Or bring driver license, school ID with photo, voter registration card, U.S. military or dependents’ card AND Social Security card, original or certified copy of birth certificate, Native American tribal document, U.S. citizen ID card, resident citizen card or unexpired employment card. Fall Festival

Oct. 16, 5-8:30 p.m. Snow Rogers Elementary School will have its fall festival on the school playground. There will be food, games, rides, a silent auction and more. Tickets can be purchased at the school or at the festival for 50 cents each. For more information, call the school at 379-5400.

Oct. 19, 8 a.m. The North Jefferson Women’s Center will host its annual “Swing for Life” golf tournament fund-raiser at Highlands Golf Course in Birmingham. Oct. 22, 23 The Gardendale Arts Council and the City of Gardendale will host their annual dinner theater with the comedy/musical “Nunsense” at the Gardendale Civic Center’s Exhibition Hall. Free Tot Shots

The Jefferson County Department of Health will host free tot shot clinics the fourth Thursday of each month at Gardendale First Baptist Church in the Family Life Center, 3-5 p.m.

Book sale

Oct. 30, 12-4 p.m.; Oct 31, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The North Jefferson-Blount Regional Library Foundation is holding a giant used book sale at the former Alabama National Guard Army on Cane Creek Road to raise money for the new Regional Library at Warrior. Nov. 11 For Veterans Day only, U.S. service members and military veterans with ID can get in free to the Birmingham Museum of Art’s special exhibit called Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. The exhibit features American art from the Yale University Art Gallery and runs Oct. 4 through Jan. 10.
