Republican meeting

Oct. 15, 6 p.m. The North Jefferson County Republican Club will meet at Jim ’N Nick’s restaurant. No cost to attend.



Census Jobs

Oct. 15, 10 a.m. Applications will be accepted at the Gardendale-Martha Moore Public Library, 995 Mt. Olive Road, for full-time and part-time positions with the U.S. Census Bureau. Applicants from Gardendale, Kimberly, Morris, County LIne and Trafford areas especially needed. Arrive 15 minutes early for the 30-minute timed test. Bring passport or employment authorization document. Or bring driver license, school ID with photo, voter registration card, U.S. military or dependents’ card AND Social Security card, original or certified copy of birth certificate, Native American tribal document, U.S. citizen ID card, resident citizen card or unexpired employment card. Expect to spend three hours at the test session. Practice test and other information is available at www.2010censusjobs.gov.



Fall Festival

Oct. 16, 5-8:30 p.m. Snow Rogers Elementary School will have its fall festival on the school playground. There will be food, games, rides, a silent auction and more. Tickets can be purchased at the school or at the festival for 50 cents each. For more information, call the school at 379-5400.



Historical Society

Oct. 17, 10 a.m. The Gardendale Historical Society will have its monthly meeting at the Gardendale-Martha Moore Public Library. The speaker will be Sylvia Grant of Gardendale. For more information, call Patsy Duncan at 608-3375.



Homecoming

Oct. 18, 10 a.m. The Lord’s Chapel, 2640 Snow Rogers Road, will have homecoming featuring preaching by Charles Goodwin and music by Total Praise. To learn more, call 631-2515.



Golf Tournament

Oct. 19, 8 a.m. The North Jefferson Women’s Center will host its annual “Swing for Life” golf tournament fund-raiser at Highlands Golf Course in Birmingham. Musical

Oct. 22, 23 The Gardendale Arts Council and the City of Gardendale will host their annual dinner theater with the comedy/musical “Nunsense” at the Gardendale Civic Center’s Exhibition Hall. Banquet

Oct. 29, 6:30 p.m. The North Jefferson Women’s Center will host its annual “Celebrate Life” fund-raising banquet at the Gardendale First Baptist Church fellowship hall. Tickets are $10 at the door. To reserve a table for eight or for more information, call the center at 608-0100.



Fall Festival

Historical info needed

The Gardendale Historical Society is looking for historical information and old pictures of Gardendale. The society meets the third Saturday of every month, 10 a.m., at the Gardendale-Martha Moore Public Library and always welcomes new members. Call Patsy Duncan, 608-3375.



Free Tot Shots

The Jefferson County Department of Health will host free tot shot clinics the fourth Thursday of each month at Gardendale First Baptist Church in the Family Life Center, 3-5 p.m.



Council Meetings

Gardendale City Council meets the first and third Monday of each month, 6 p.m., at Gardendale City Hall. Meetings are open to the public. Call 631-8789.

Fall Festival

Dinner Concert

Christmas in Kimberly

Kimberly Town Hall is taking applications from families who need help for Christmas. The fifth annual Kimberly Christmas parade is Dec. 12, with a tree-lighting ceremony to follow. There is no fee to be in the parade. Get applications for both programs at Kimberly Town Hall. Call 647-5551.



Warrior



Book sale

Oct. 30, 12-4 p.m.; Oct 31, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The North Jefferson-Blount Regional Library Foundation is holding a giant used book sale at the former Alabama National Guard Army on Cane Creek Road to raise money for the new Regional Library at Warrior. There will also be a bake sale both days. The Warrior Lions Club will be selling hot dogs on Oct. 31. Donations of books and baked goods needed. For more information, call Anne Jolly at 590-4909.



Book donations

North Jefferson-Blount Public Library Foundation is collecting used books for a book sale to benefit the future Regional Library at Warrior. To donate, drop books off at current Warrior Public Library during operating hours; drop books off at the former Alabama National Guard Armory on Cane Creek Road Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or on Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; or call Anne Jolly at 590-4909 or Linda Taylor at 647-3506.

Autism Support

Quilt Show

Children participating in the One Block Costume Trot are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes, with prizes awarded for best costumes. Museum

Nov. 11 For Veterans Day only, U.S. service members and military veterans with ID can get in free to the Birmingham Museum of Art’s special exhibit called Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. The exhibit features American art from the Yale University Art Gallery and runs Oct. 4 through Jan. 10. Regular prices for the exhibit are $12 for adults; $10 for groups, seniors age 65 and older, veterans and active military with ID; $6 for students; and free for age 6 and younger.
