Bloominfields, located at 624 Glennwood Road in Morris, is owned and operated by Tammy Calhoun and Renee Mortin.

The store’s hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tammy Calhoun, who has made crafts by hand for years, purchased the flower and gift shop Bloominfields more than two years ago. She is perhaps best known for her hand-made string figures, including snowmen at Christmas and bunnies at Easter.

She hails from New Orleans originally, but has lived in the north Jefferson County area for 24 years. She and her husband Jay have five children and seven grandchildren.

The store will have a booth at the North Arts Council’s Christmas Crafts Show at the Gardendale Civic Center on Nov. 13-14.

Calhoun shared the following about her business:

• What’s your business background? “I’ve always made hand-crafted items and just about everything in the store is hand-made. I had the design of the snowman I make copyrighted in 2005.”

• What services / products do you provide? “We do weddings, funerals, baby gifts, anniversaries and gifts for just about every occasion. We also do homemade bath soaps and bath salts and etched glass and wood. About 98 percent of everything in the store is hand-made. If we don’t have something on hand, we’ll be happy to make it.”

• What’s been your greatest success as a business? “Growing the business and getting to know my customers and people in the community.”

• What’s the greatest joy of being the owner or manager of the business? “I like being able to use my own ideas; that’s my favorite part of being a business owner.”

• Is your line of work something you would recommend to someone else? “If you enjoy flowers and crafts, most definitely. I enjoy what I do and it’s very rewarding in a lot of different ways.”

• What future plans do you have for your business? “Hopefully just growing the business.”

• Why should someone shop with you or use your services over a competitor? “We love our customers and we treat everyone like they’re family. We try to give everybody very personalized service. We do quality work and we hope that keeps them coming back.”
