HANCEVILLE — Items such as Iron Bowl tickets, original paintings, a flat screen TV, cakes and weekend vacations were all up for grabs for a good cause Wednesday at the Wallace State Future Foundation luncheon and auction.

The event raised $77,100 for Future Foundation scholarships, up from the $75,000 raised last year.

“We were not expecting to make as much because of the state of the economy this year,” Ex-Officio Jenny Folsom said. “We’re so glad the event went so well.”

Wallace State President Vicki Hawsey said she appreciated all the donations and everyone who attended the event.

“I want to personally thank you all for taking the time out to participate in this valuable experience,” she said. “Thank you for your investment in these students. It’s education that makes the greatest impact on people and a community.”

Future Foundation President Dale Greer also offered his appreciation.

“It’s very important that you’re all here,” he said.

Greer also commended the board for all of their work.

“They give a lot of time and energy,” he said. “They’re an important part of this process.”

He added that the scholarships that are given away truly go to help the community and students.

“These scholarships make it possible for a lot of people to go to college who may not have been able to otherwise,” he said.
