I want to encourage everyone to have a safe and happy Halloween. I know we are excited about having Raygan’s first trick-or-treat. If you don’t like to trick-or-treat, make sure to check out some of the local churches that are having alternative gatherings. I know that Warrior Assembly of God, The Church Revived, Glennwood Baptist Church and Mt. Olive Alliance Church are all having festivals on Oct. 31. Please make plans to attend.

• Fieldstown Church of God will be having a hot dog sale and car wash on Oct. 29 at 9 a.m. For more information, call 631-6013.

• The North Jefferson Community Choir meets every Tuesday night from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the choir room of the Gardendale Mt. Vernon UMC. Make plans to be a founding member of this special organization. Contact Ginny Hughes at ginhughes@yahoo.com for more information.

• The North End Council of Garden Clubs will have a tasting luncheon on Nov. 9. Please join us between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center. For more information, call Kitty Ricks at 631-9802.

• The Christian group “Silencing the Stones” will perform a free concert at Central Baptist Church on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. They are located on Newfound Road by the soccer fields. Call 631-4231 for more info.

• Congratulations are in order for Tina George of Fultondale. Tina was announced to the President’s List at Jefferson State Community College.

• Follow the trail to Pineywood Baptist Church’s western fall festival tomorrow from 3 to 6 p.m. There will be free food, fun and fellowship with lots of games. For more information call 631-3832.

• The annual Jones family reunion will be held at the Warrior Community Center Nov. 4. Lunch will begin at 1 p.m. Descendants of William Casey Jones, Elizabeth Russell, their children, Martha Ann, Joseph “Joe,” Andrew, Mintie, Lorenzo, Gertrude, Annie, Era Bell, Homer and Willie Jones are encouraged to come. For information, call Harold Jones at 647-5948 or Sharon Brown at 647-2424.

• I want to wish a very special happy 50th birthday to Debbie Stewart on Oct. 25. Hope the next 50 years are as great as the last 50. I think this makes you an antique.
