Happy fourth of July. Benjamin Franklin was known for his wit and wisdom. Each of the
following quotes attributed to him are worthy of meditation:
“Eat to live, and do not live to eat.”
“Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”
“Tis easy to see, hard to foresee.”
“To err is human, to repent divine; to persist devilish.”
“Who is rich? He that rejoices in his portion.”
“People who are wrapped up in themselves make small packages.”
“A good example is the best sermon.”
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
“Sell not virtue to purchase wealth, nor liberty to purchase power.”
“If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead and rotten. Either write things worthy of reading. Or do things worth the writing.”
n Happy birthday to: Joel Williams on July 1; Cody Hayes and Mildred Sharp on July 4; Tabitha Gray on July 5; and Phillip Gray on July 7.
n Happy anniversary to: Robert and Deborah Richardson on July 1; Ronnie and Margaret Marsh on July 3; Bill and Faye Statton; and Raymond and Kellie Williams on July 6.
“Old Glory”
Every time I see Old Glory raise, my heart fills up with overwhelming praise for God’s creation beautiful to see, and men who gave their life to keep her free.
I’ll gladly stand… this token is so small, a thing to do when others gave their all.
Every time Old Glory passes by, a tear of gratitude slips from my eye; Her colors bring a sense of pride to me, I know my freedom really isn’t free; I realize some parent’s heart will break today for one who dies for freedoms sake.
Every time I see Old Glory wave and hear “Land of the free, Home of the Brave,” I rise and honor all the flag stands for — My God, my country — could I offer more?
I walk with God and treat my world with care, and lift the troops and leaders up in prayer. —Ann Davis
