Preps roundup: Hayden loses Duals title by one point

The title for the annual Hayden Duals wrestling tournament came down to the last bout, with the host team leading Fort Payne by just three points.
But Garren Sac’s major-decision win over Vyncent Wunderlich in the 126-lb. match gave Fort Payne four team points, which in turn gave them the tourney title by a 35-34 score.
Hayden defeated Jordan 44-27 in the semifinal, and Fort Payne took down Pinson 42-30 in the other.
Trey Howse (145 lbs.) and Trey Moore (152) both won all six of their matches for Hayden in the tournament.
Fultondale eighth in Florida: Dante Stanley and Dylan Trice placed third in their weights as the Wildcats finished in the middle of the pack at the Andrews Institute Invitational at Gulf Breeze, Fla.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Gardendale 57, Tarrant 22: Nathan Sheffield and Trey Evans each scored 10 points Friday, with Evans also grabbing 10 rebounds for the Rockets.
Gardendale 69, Carbon Hill 67 (2 OT): Jeremy Gardner’s 3-pointer put the Rockets up for good late in the second overtime Thursday. Sheffield scored 26 and Evans had 16.
Mortimer Jordan 58, Curry 43: Tyler Pelkey scored 26 points and Mark Louis added 14 as the Blue Devils go to 3-1 in area play.
Walker 53, Hayden 38: Seth Aderhold had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats, who fell to 2-3 in their area.
Tabernacle Christian 49, Tuscaloosa Christian 31: Carson Dabbs scored 18 points and Caleb Thompson had 10 for the Torches.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
No. 7 Hayden 45, Walker 26: Krista Stricklin scored 22 points and Grayson Taylor added 11, while Katie Parr grabbed 16 rebounds and Lori Swann 10 for the Wildcats (15-3, 4-1 area) on Friday.
Gardendale 43, Carbon Hill 39: Mallorie Corbin put the Rockets up for good with a 3-pointer with 1:50 left Thursday. Chelsey Deloney led all scorers with 20 points.
Tuscaloosa Christian 25, Tabernacle Christian 15: Lauren Box had six points and three steals for the Torches.
