PREP FOOTBALL: Glasscock era begins at Cullman

- Cullman’s Noah Elrod hauls in a catch during practice.
The Oscar Glasscock era is officially underway.
Cullman opened fall camp earlier this month with a new head coach but an all-too-familiar goal — securing a spot in the Class 6A playoffs.
The Bearcats missed the postseason last fall for only the third time since 2000 and hope to correct that setback with a strong effort in 2019.
Cullman will begin its campaign on Aug. 22 at Class 5A, No. 3 Jasper.
The Bearcats defeated the Vikings 28-27 inside Oliver Woodard Stadium in Week 0 last season.

% Coach Speak: “We keep trying to develop a sense of urgency. The focus is on us improving every day. We’ve made some strides, but it’s kind of like the theme from “Smokey and the Bandit” — ‘We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.’ I think the guys are understanding that. We’ve had good speed and urgency in the weight room, and it’s getting better in practice. We’re not near where we’ve got to be, but it’s getting there.” — Oscar Glasscock
% Player Speak: “Practice has been about focusing on us and improving our game. If everybody is focused on doing their job and is successful at that, I think we can do big things. I’m extremely excited about the season. We’ve been putting in a lot of work to make sure we have a good year.” — Jayden Sullins
