In an effort to clear up dozens of outstanding warrants in a short span of time, the department hauled in 26 people on outstanding warrants between Friday and Monday, for a total of 48 criminal charges — 32 felonies and 16 misdemeanors.

CPD Cpt. Becky Boyd said the concentrated effort helps resolve outstanding cases that sometimes can’t be cleared at the time a warrant is first issued.

“Over the course of the year, especially with drug cases, making an arrest often depends on the circumstances of a case,” Boyd explained. “Often, there are a number of factors to take into consideration, and sometimes a warrant for an arrest will still be out there on people we weren’t able to locate when the warrant was issued.

“Periodically, it just makes sense for us to execute on a number of warrants and clear up a lot of those outstanding cases. We made a lot of arrests, but we are still actively looking for a number of people.

“I am very proud of the work that Cullman Police Department Investigators do on a daily basis.,” said Boyd in a supplemental press release. “In 2016, our office investigated 1,010 cases from which these warrants were generated. Serving these warrants is just a glimpse of the work done not only by investigators, but by the Patrol Division as well. We all work together to serve the citizens of Cullman, and we greatly appreciate the support we receive from this community.
