Man jailed on counterfeit money charges

A Vinemont man accused of making counterfeit cash is out of jail on bond following his arrest by Cullman police last week.
Mark Anthony Nix, 52, was charged with first-degree forgery, first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, criminal possession of forgery device, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was booked into the Cullman County Detention Center and released on a $15,000 property bond, according to Sheriff Matt Gentry.
Sgt. Chris Thomason, officers Trey Higginbotham and Kyle Foshee and investigators Justin Craft and Scott Sanford with the Cullman Police Department went to a home Friday on County Road 1435 (Eva Road) after receiving information about possible counterfeit currency.
Officers were allowed to search the residence and recovered several different denominations of counterfeit U.S. currency, printers and other items used to facilitate in the counterfeiting process. Police said they also recovered coffee filters containing methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia.
“There have been a high number of counterfeit bills passed to local businesses lately,” Thomason said. He advised businesses to be on alert for counterfeit $5, $10, $20 and $100 bills and to report any counterfeit bills to law enforcement

Bice was charged with first-degree possession of marijuana, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia in June 2016. According to court records, he pleaded guilty to second-degree possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, and the drug paraphernalia charged was dismiss. Nix was sentenced to 24 months probation and court fees, and a one-year prison sentence was suspended.
