Hello, Wednesday…
Weather: Nice. Mostly sunny skies today with highs in the middle 80s. Partly cloudy for tonight, with lows in the middle 60s. A slight chance of afternoon showers for Thursday, with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the middle 60s.
Mosley was set up for attack, investigators believe. The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office says that former Mortimer Jordan football coach and assistant principal Steve Mosley was beaten by two men who then stole the Chevy Tahoe that he was trying to sell. The incident began Friday when Mosley met with one of the men to show his SUV – which, contrary to earlier reports, was not advertised on the Craigslist website, but simply parked near his Morris home with a “For Sale” sign on it. They drove north on I-65 and pulled off at the Hanceville/Alaama 91 exit, where an accomplice of the man posing as a buyer was waiting; those two then beat Mosley, who was found wandering around on the road later. The attackers are described as white and of medium build; investigators think they are from Jefferson County. Mosley remains in a Birmingham hospital in stable condition.
Sports: One in a million. A Gardendale woman became the millionth fan to attend a Birmingham Barons baseball game since the team moved into the new Regions Field downtown. Morgan Clark was surprised as sirens went off when she walked through the gates. She won a season pass for the rest of the year, $500 in jewelry, a year’s worth of sub sandwiches and a bicycle, plus she threw out the first pitch of the Barons’ game against the Biloxi Shuckers. Alas, the home team lost by a 4-3 score. The Barons play again today at 11 a.m., if you’re looking to play hooky from work.
